Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

Minor observation I hope. When running at lower RPMs, the pressure gauge on my DE filter reads 0. The strainer is about half full at this RPM as well. However, when I set it to full speed, or something more quicker, pressure builds to normal (~1.5 bar) and the strainer is full with a minor normal air bubble showing in the cover.

Is the zero PSI normal for a VS pump running low RPM?

Many gauges have too large of a range and thus can not show the low pressures accurately. Your experience sounds fairly common.

User a higher RPM to check the pressure rise to know when it has risen 20-25% and should be cleaned.

Thanks for the reassurance. I just started reading about the DE filters in the Pool School stickies.

Unfortunately, I don't know what my baseline is and can't determine whether I've reached the 20-25% mark. I'll probably backwash the filter to be safe. My only question is, how much DE do I refill in? I read, too much or too little is not good. Would the DE Filter data sheet tell me how much is required?

We generally say about 80% of the full amount stated the manual when only backwashing. If you do a full breakdown, then add full amount.
