Pump recommendation for still working motor

Hi all,

I am helping my father-in-law choose a new pump to pair with the motor in these pictures. The current pump is very old and has a crack in the housing. The motor is also quite old but still runs despite the rust, so since funds are tight it would be preferable to replace only the pump for now if possible. I've had trouble researching this as the labels are completely worn off on the pump. Can anyone recommend a pump to go with this motor?

If you don't have the dough, you don't have the dough. I can relate to that, for sure. But if overall value is an issue, I'm not sure you're on the best path. The right new pump, with a new motor/pump combo will likely save you money in not too much time, especially with an SWG in your setup. They've come a long way with pool pumps, they are much more energy efficient now. Quieter too. Have you looked into government and power company rebates for a new pump? That could make a new one more affordable, too.

Otherwise, you might send a photo to Hayward support and see if they can tell you what you have (if no one here knows, sorry, I don't)...

Replace the whole pump. That motor is too old and too big.

You can get a good but inexpensive single speed Superpump or other pump or a 2 speed or a variable speed.

A SP2605X7 or a SP2607X10 would be fine.

Thanks Dirk. For this discussion, please ignore my signature--this thread is actually for my father-in-law's pump/pool. I don't have all the specifics, but it's a ~45,000gal non-SWG plaster pool with hot tub and some water features. It was built with two pumps.

In any case, this is an excellent point. I'll check on the rebates and point out to him the energy costs of his fossil of a motor.

Good suggestions, thanks James. Is Hayward the way to go, or are there equivalents from other brands worth considering? Any specific 2-speed or variable speed pumps in mind?

Can you provide more details about the pool?

Any automation?

Any reason for high flow or pressure?

How many skimmers?

Also, the motor isn't that old. There's a water leak hitting the motor that's causing corrosion.
