Pump Purchase Confusion for Very Basic Pool

Hey everyone. I've got an in-ground pool roughly 18,000-24,000 gallons. I have no automation whatsoever and not looking to add it. It's got one skimmer and about as basic as it comes. Current set up is (pic also attached):
-1.5hp Pentair Single Speed Superflo (the old mechanical dial on/off)
-Pentair IC-40 SWCG that is in line with the system meaning, when the pump is on the SWCG is on
-Pentair Clean and Clear 150 cartridge filter
-1.5 inch piping for pool plumbing

Need to replace pump and filter and I got a quote from a local Tampa pool company which suggested I go with an Intelliflo3 VSF 3hp Pump w/ Relay......I guess the relay is to use an app? Also, suggested to upgrade from the C&C 150 to a C&C 200 cartridge filter. Wanting to stick with Pentair and wanting to replace my pump with variable speed I have a couple of questions for this forum because I don't think I need the technology I was quoted:

1. Can't I go with a Superflo (heard there is a basic pump with 2 speeds) or a Superflo VS and save money by not going with the Intelliflo3 VSF 3hp I was quoted?
2. How many speeds do you actually need for a variable speed pump? Two, three, eight, more? Help me with my thinking. I'd need one speed that is as low as I can get while still making sure my in line SWCG is operating and a second speed for increased flow during a kids swimming party (heavy pool use) correct? Do I need more than two speeds for my simple system?
3. What is the difference in the Whisperflo and Superflo VS? Looks like they cost about the same and do about the same thing unless I missed something.
4. Can I stick with a 1.5hp pump and upgrade to a C&C 200 cartridge filter (from a 150) and not impact performance? If I upgraded the filter size would I need to move up from a 1.5hp pump keeping in mind I only have 1.5" plumbing?

Sorry for so many questions but there are so many models creating so much confusion and most people I can speak with are pushing a product and trying to make a sale. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Kid,

The quote you have for the 3 HP IntelliFlo3 and larger filter is really the best option, but does cost more. The relay card is to control the SWCG, as a VS pump gets constant AC power, and the SWCG does not.

The larger the pump, the slower you can run it and still move plenty of water to turn on the SWCG. And the quieter it will be...

A SuperFlo will work, and is initially cheaper, but will have to be run faster to turn on the SWCG.

I never recommend the smaller (1.5 HP) pumps, but that is just me...

I have an older 3 HP IntelliFlo, that is so quiet that I almost have to touch it to make sure it is still running.. I run it at about 1200 RPM, 24/7 and is costs me less than $20 bucks a month to run. The IntelliFlo3 is much more energy efficient... than my 10 year old pump..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have an older 1HP single speed pump that runs at full speed while its on and is quite audible. It costs somewhere between $50 to $100 a month to run. The more expensive 3.0HP VS pump running at 1000-1500 RPM is much cheaper and quieter to run. Sadly, the price has doubled over the last 3-4 years, courtesy of Covid and greedflation.
