Hi all, not to hijack this thread, but I think I'm having the same issue that's been discussed here. I have a bestway above ground pool with a sand filter. This is its' 2nd season. I forgot to turn on the pump before I went to work and so when I came home I went to start it and it starts to hum. I turned it off and on several times and it caught and ran fine. It has been doing this for the last 2 days. Does this still sound like a capacitor?

Hi OTPirate, I have a multimeter if that would work. I'm still trying to find the capacitor. There is a square box attached to the top of the pump. The power switch is on the side of this box. Would they put the capacitor in there? Thanks for the response.

What is the model of the pump. They typically have pretty good documentation on line. Or call InyoPools and ask them.

Take care.

Yup.
Before you disconnect it, read up on how to discharge it. It will shock the **** out of you if not discharged.

Have all your electrical to the pump disconnected and locked out.

It shows on line to be for a fan -- so this is a really small pump motor. You might have issues finding one locally, but should be able to find one online.

Keep adding chlorine to your pool and brushing / swimming to mix it in.

Take care.

Well, the pump is running with the old capacitor. I was talking with my neighbor (HVAC guy) and he thought that because the pump did eventually start that we might look at connections before capacitor. After I uploaded the picture, I plugged it back in and tried the switch. It fired right up. I cycled it several times and worked every time. The only thing that had changed was me moving wires to take the picture. Changed the 3 wire group from a "crimp on" to a wire nut. This morning I went to start it up and it took a few tries with the power button. It seemed like I had to hit the right angle and then it would work. I'm wondering if I can replace the GFCI end of the cord with a regular heavy duty plug. It is plugged into a GFCI outlet.
Thanks for all the help,
John
