Pump losing its prime

Update:

Finished deep clean, re-drained filter and then leveled it. Put in new gauge and thus far it is good. Much better water pressure regardless and after backwashing and rinsing to start filter is running at about 25 PSI to start. So I am going to go back to SLAM and get rid of this cloudy water

It is sunny out so I could check my CYA and it is 30 so mission accomplished there too.

Going back to another thread where I indicated by sand filter barrel cracked, can I just turn jandy valve so that water does not go through filter and run pump until new filter arrives? I had started to SLAM again before shutting things back down once filter blew out.
