Pump loses prime randomly while operating just fine.

Hello

New to the forum and having my own pool.

Some pool details.

27x54 round above ground salt water pool
Salt pool
Sand filter
1.5 hp pump
Pump is oriented that way because of plumbing constraints with where I brought the pipes up through the concrete.

randomly while the pump is running it will lose prime. The pump will be pretty much empty and salt cell completely empty. Water level is about 1 inch below the top of the skimmer at the moment. Return jet facing down. Tried a bunch of different angles. Possibly not in the picture is a check valve on the horizontal plumbing before the pump inlet.

Any thoughts?

I’m away from the house til Wednesday. I tried experimenting with the door by taking it off completely just to see if it would reduce or increase the frequency of the issue. But it made no change.

It may be in the picture but both valve are 1/4 turn and they are all open at this time.

This picture was taken during pool setup. I thought I had another but I do not

Turn off the salt cell so it doesn't cook itself in the event your flow switch fails. Start using liquid chlorine in the meantime while you figure this out.

I find that I need to bleed the air out of the filter when that happens. It usually solves the issue.
