Pump hums, overloads circuits, impeller is turning

I went to go boot up the pump so we could open our pool. The pump gave off a hum for a few seconds and then overloaded the circuit breaker. Took it apart and the impeller was stuck, but after a while it began moving freely. I was able to get it spinning, so I thought I was in the clear.

Hooked everything back up. Sounds a bit stronger, but still – poof. Shorts the circuit. Is the problem the capacitor, probably? It looked okay, but I guess that doesn't mean much about the inside of it.

Yeah, that's the next step. Going to grab a new start capacitor and hopefully that doe it.

Wow! Dohney's was backed up and I finally got my capacitor. Yep. Definitely was the capacitor. Running like a charm, now!

the pump ran for a few hours, but I noticed it getting hot and that electric smell. Turned it off, and now it won't turn over again – just a lot of humming. Impeller turns just fine.

I had similar issues two years ago. Replaced the starting cap. Still had a hot housing and smell. I got new bearings and a rebuild kit and did it all myself. Pump operates properly now.
