My Hayward 1.5 hp pump was not turning to start the season. I opened it and manually turned the impeller. It started to run. I shut it off and turned it on again. Same result, humming but not turning. I manually turned the impeller, it started up. This happened five times in a row. It won't start without a push. I tried changing the capacitor but same result.

If a new capacitor didn't help, most likely the start windings have burned/shorted. New motor or pump time.
