When is it good to use a filter bag?

-Only when troubleshooting
-always
-never
-randomly
-when storms are on the way

Thoughts?

Way back in the day when I went to the pool store (are those still around?), the clerk said don’t use it in your filter basket as it could get sucked into the impeller…

Josh,

I think we have a terminology issue.

Pools have Skimmers that have a basket and Pool pumps have a basket. I am not at all sure what a "Filter Bag" is.

I use hairnets in my Skimmer baskets as it helps to keep stuff out of my filter and makes cleaning the skimmer baskets easy.

I don't put a hairnet or skimmer sock in my pump basket.

I'm sure it is just me, but I am not sure what your question is..

Thanks,

Jim R

Yeah a basket sock. I can’t put one on my skimmer basket cause I don’t use one as my vac plugs right into that suction hole. Even if I take my vac out and put the basket back in w/ a sock then stuff sucked in the main drain would go straight to the filter basket connected to the pump. Just wondering if that’s an ok place to have one to ensure anything is caught before entering the pump that could possibly clog the impeller.

I have that and use it when I run my vac. Holes are about the same size as the filter basket by pump. It seals so tight I can’t use a sock on it(I might try again). I have a certain leave thing that gets through those holes and gets caught in the impeller and don’t want to have to take apart to clean out the fins.

Seems the only con to them is they do grab everything and psi. Goes down as pump can’t suck enough water through. So gotta keep an eye on it.

So when I use my vac and in-line filter like the one pictures it still sucks stuff in the relief valve at end of hose that goes into suction port. I’ve see the basket inserts that let you use one side to hook up vac and the other side is like it’s own little skimmer. Wondering if that’s a good way to go..?
