Pump disconnected, should I cover the pipe open end?

I'm wondering if there is any consideration whether or not to cover up the openings left by disconnecting the pump & removing the sight glass and pressure gauge on the filter. Should I cover up the pipe and filter holes? If so, what should I use for this purpose? The pool was closed last winter by pool company and I'm attaching a snapshot from a movie clip I happen to find. Can't tell much though..

Yes, you don’t want insects or critters nesting in it. Put a rubber plug or rag in and some duct tape or aluminum tape over it.
