Pump burned out?

I have a separate pump for my 3 rockport waterfalls....I have them programmed to come on at a certain time each day. Well after noticing they did not come on at the set time, I began troubleshooting. I checked the breaker and noticed it was tripped. So I reset it and tried to restart the pump. The motor started smoking and smelled like an electrical fire. I quickly flipped the breaker off and called the Pool Builder. They are scheduled to come out today to repair....I will post a follow up after they leave.

We had our pool built in Nov. of 2016 so I am hoping this is covered under warranty.

I would think so. Our pump died and it was replaced under warranty and it was 2 years old

Check with the installer and/or equipment manufacturer. Smoke coming out of the motor is a sure sign of burnt windings. No fixing it, new motor or pump is in order.

Update: Repair guy replaced the capacitor which had some burn markings on the terminal. Tried to restart the pump to no avail. He replaced the pump with a new one at no charge because it was still under warranty.

So he replaced it - is everything working as it should be?

Also, as noted, when something is smoking, something is burning. Never accept a part replacement; demand an entire new pump...these PB's and their tech's need to know that when you fork out $XX,XXX.XX or more, that you expect quality. Setting the stage at first let's them know you're not uninformed or a pushover. I mean no disrespect to you, just trying to insure you receive the value you paid for.

Everything is working as it should.....He replaced the 1.25 HP pump with a 1.75 HP....Said there have been several of the 1.25 going out lately.
