Remember, kiddies, it's muriatic acid. Mur-ree-at-ic. Not monetic, not mercuric, not murrick. I think if we are going to be using a chemical, we need to use the correct name. It's really a safety issue -- imagine going into a store and asking for motectic acid. No telling what you're going to get!

Muriatic acid is hydrochloric acid. Mercuric acid is a solution of mercury and sulfuric or nitric acid. I've seen muriatic acid called mercuric acid several times here -- don't want to confuse the two!
