My alkalinity is VERY high so I’m dumping acid in every day in a battle to reduce it. I don’t have a very local pool store so just looking at the hardware store prices. There the 31.45% is $7 a gallon and dry acid is $17 for 5lbs so the Muriatic is way cheaper. Is that true when dealing with a pool store and buying large buckets of dry acid?

Your signature shows you have SaltWater Chlorine Generator. You do not want to use dry acid in a pool with a SWCG. The sulfates that are left in the pool water will destroy the rare earth metal coating of the SWCG plates.

$7 a gallon for 31.45% MA is cheap in my world.
Your part of the country has Menards. They are known for reasonably priced chlorine and acid.

Really? That’s what came in the “salt water pool opening” kit… I’ve put 6lbs in it over the last couple days. Do I need to do anything to correct it now?

They do not break down. But over flow due to rain, winter draining, etc should lower the level in the pool water.
