This may be a really dumb question, but why do pool pumps not have an automatic pressure relief valve like a boiler or hot water tank? This thought occurred to me after I accidentally left my return line closed after cleaning my filter and cracked my tank body (I know dumb Rear me!) Anyway it occurred to me a pressure relief valve may have saved me a bit of expense for my dumbassery

A pool pump cannot create much pressure. It will stall. All equipment is rated for far more pressure than a pool pump can create. The system also cannot trap pressure (unless valves are closed).
