Last year was my first year as a pool owner. I have a Hayward sand filter. The pressure gauge read about 13-15 all year. I just opened my pool and the gauge was at 13. A day later it was up to 23. I backwashed and rinsed but it stayed at 23. Is this just a function of a crappy gauge? The return jet still feels as strong as always.

Hi and welcome to TFP. Also in Ohio. Go Blue!

Gauges are notorious for failing. Cheap maintenance item. Probably time for a new one!

Sounds like a new gauge is in your (near) future.
Look for a liquid dampened gauge that reads 0-30 psi - instead of 0-60 psi. It makes it easier read and your system should never go over 30 psi anyway.
