Pressure drop after sand change?

Is it normal for the pressure to drop a couple psi after changing the sand in the filter? I went from about 26 psi before to 23 after.

I'm worried there may be a gap in the standpipe above the sand that water is flowing through.

When I backwash it drops to about 20 psi; on recirculate it's about 18 psi.

No, that's fine. Clean sand equals less resistance which equals more flow and lower psi
