I’ve got an ic60 being delivered tomorrow so I added salt yesterday to 3400ppm, my pool has never looked this good honestly but my only concern is the CH at 320. Anyone think that will be an issue I need to address? It shot up through the COPIOUS amounts of calhypo i used “opening” the last 2 years. Hoping I never have to add that Crud again after putting in this oversized salt cell and leaving the pool running year round. Is there anything else I should aware of or watch out for swapping to a swg? Here’s my current numbers
PH 7.6
TA 70
CH 320
FC 5
CC 0
CYA a little over 50 (Taylor) 60 Leslie’s test

Me next question would be run times. I run my pump 24/7 usually between 1000-1500rpm, I have an extremely low head with a short plumbing run, 2” plumbing on a 3hp VS pump so even at 1000rpm I’m around 40gpm, I doubt I can even run the pump at the lowest setting and not trigger the flow switch. Would I just lower the cell% until it evens out?

Mine works down to 700 RPMs / 35 W. That's too low for skimming so I need at least 1000 RPMs to kill 2 birds with one

Yes. Any equivalent maths are the same. 100% for 6 hours or 25% for 24 hours are both 6 hour producing FC.

In DFW you'll need to run the cell about 12 hours a day in the peak season, and less leading up to or winding down from.

If you miss an adjustment time in the spring you're caught short on FC because the UV demand increased and you didn't match it. You'll be at peak loss rates soon if you aren't already so it should be pretty steady for a while. After that, UV demand will slowly lower for the rest of the season and if you miss an adjustment time, you make too much FC, about the best 'problem' you can have. Whoopsies it's a 15 but it's STOOPID clear !!!! :ROFLMAO: It's safe up to SLAM, 28 FC @ 70 CYA, once you raise it. You may even find you need 80.

This is a great time to learn and by the time you kinda have to know what you're doing next year, you'll have several adjustments under your belt already.

Oh I’d definitely say I’m into the peak demand season here right now, I’m adding a minimum of 1/2g 10% liquid every evening, sometimes up to a full gallon. It’s gotten ridiculously expensive and annoying lugging a shopping cart full of chlorine every week, if chlorine prices don’t come down I’ll have the salt system paid for way faster than I accounted for. So noone thinks I need to address the CH then?

Bump your CYA up to ~80. Pass an OCLT first.

CYA a little over 50 (Taylor) 60 Leslie’s test
Stop going to the pool store. What model test kit do you have?

only concern is the CH at 320
Not a problem. That's on the low end of the CH range, which is perfectly fine. What's the CH and TA of your fill water?

Fill out your signature when you have a minute.

ftw,

If you get your CYA up to 70, you should see an obvious drop off in your FC demand..

You will want to keep your FC at, or above, your target FC.. Do not try to keep your FC between the Minimum and your target.

See this chart.. under saltwater pools... FC/CYA Levels

Thanks,

Jim R.

Last year we battled mustard algae in the middle of the season and nothing worked because my CYA was 80-90 so after the winter I pledged to NEVER let my CYA get that high ever again. I’d rather spend a little extra on chlorine then have to shock at 40+ppm to clear out an algae bloom. That was unreal.
I use a Taylor 2006c kit but sometimes drop a sample off at Leslie’s on occasion for SnG’s. My OCLT is solid I went through that battle about 2 months ago. We have something in our soil here that converts CYA into ammonia if I don’t keep my FC at the upper range and when that happens its 5gallons+ chlorine a day for about a week to kill the ammonia and once it’s all done my CYA is zero. Whatever it is I wish I could bottle it and sell it, I’d be rich.
My tap has zero CH and over 300TA
