What holds the multiport on is that collar with the metal screws. Inside, it's C shaped. The filter has a lip and the multiport has a lip, and there's an O-ring between them. The C part squeezes the two lips together and squishes the O-ring and that seals it.
If the top hasn't been off before, you might want to pick up a new O-ring and some pool lube before it all comes apart because it might not want to reseal.
Also remember when you cut the plumbing that there's a some extra space inside the unions. A single cut might end up leaving the reassembled pipe 1/4" too long and things might not line up.
