Preparing for deep clean Pentair Tagelus, nervous and skeptical

I really want to give my sand filter a deep cleaning. I know I am going to have to make 3 cuts and install 3 union fittings.
This is a Pentair Tagelus 325lb sand filter.
Is it the bottom gasket that holds the filter multi valve on?

What holds the multiport on is that collar with the metal screws. Inside, it's C shaped. The filter has a lip and the multiport has a lip, and there's an O-ring between them. The C part squeezes the two lips together and squishes the O-ring and that seals it.

If the top hasn't been off before, you might want to pick up a new O-ring and some pool lube before it all comes apart because it might not want to reseal.

Also remember when you cut the plumbing that there's a some extra space inside the unions. A single cut might end up leaving the reassembled pipe 1/4" too long and things might not line up.

Yes that collar holds the multiport in place. The tricky part will be deciding where to cut. You will need about an inch of pipe on either side of the unions to glue them in place.
