Subscription expired 6/27. Apple charged my account on 6/25 automatically. Version 502 (502005). I had to manually restore my subscription in the app. Is this expected? I would have assumed it would have happened automagically, when I wasn't looking!

I think you just got caught with new app versions that needed a subscription restore at the same time you renewed.
The app has been updated frequently lately and some of the updates knocked out the subscription.
