Good morning,

We opened our pool this year after a new install, so I am still learning somewhat. We tend to take several trips during the summer.

On our first trip, I returned to a minor algae outbreak, which I cleared up overnight with brushing, extended run time, and shock. I realize that this was partly a rookie mistake because I didn’t test the water before leaving.

Aside from testing and rebalancing, would it be reasonable to shock and/or super chlorinate before an extended trip to ensure that we don’t return to an outbreak? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

We have a SWG as shown in my profile.
Sorry didn't see that. Then I am surprised you had an issue. I have a SWG and never need to add chlorine and have no issues, I can be gone a month and come back to a clean pool because of the SWG constantly adding chlorine to the pool.

I suspect that another part of my issue was running it a little low. Ours seems to require a higher percentage to maintain chlorine level. This could be due to the large amount of direct sunlight the pool gets.

You need to run your SWCG at 100% 24 hours per day to create 3.8 FC in your pool volume.

The SWCG is terribly undersized.

Thanks for that information. What is the approximate life of a cell, and approximate cost to appropriately replace?

EDIT: the manual says 35k?

The TruClears are Jandy's low end SWCG and are over-rated by their marketing team, IMO. It generates .95lb worth of chlorine a day running 24 hours straight, which as mknauss pointed out, would only net you 3.9 FC. When battling losses via UV in a southern state like GA, the cell is going to be struggling. The Aquapure 1400 would have been a much better match for your pool, as it would generate 1.25lb worth of chlorine a day (5.2 FC). It's still not rated for double your pool capacity, as we suggest around here, but it's at least a lot more. Unfortunately, that's the biggest cell Jandy makes, though this is only an issue if you're stuck with Jandy automation.

Do you have any automation like Aqualink?

No automation, unless you’re referring to something I might be unaware of.

People aren't likely to click outside links to view your pics. Sadly, too much of a security issue now-a-days (among other things).

To post them to the forum - turn off HDR and live photos on your iOS device first, then take a pic and post directly fo the forum. If that doesn't work, either edit the photos to redude the resolution of file size.

Show us what's inside your Intermatic box.
I'm guessing a timer or two and some circuit breakers.

Also a pic of the SWG in the plumbing and a wider shot of the equipmemt pad.

Is your SWG wired thru a timer so it shuts off when the pump is off?

Let me know if these don’t help. I appreciate your patience. SWG is on the same timer,so it runs when the pump runs.
