Pre pool opening (white water mold)

It's not as much time elapsed but it's still way less than the 19 loss the other day, (y)

Think of it like we don't know the answer but it needs X gallons of chlorine to fix. Each add brings you closer to the unknown goal. It's a good thing when you used more, not a kick in the teeth. :)

would I not over shoot it to get it to say 30 ppm and let it come down ?
SLAM was devised for efficiency. If you go over you start to lose more than you gained. If it's by accident and you hit 26 or whatevs, it's not the end of the world but don't aim above target on purpose.

Plus, think of how long it had to fester. It's gonna take a min to fix.

Like they say, Rome's white water mold wasn't cleared in a day. 😁

Thank you. I cleaned the top of the cover twice before they opened the pool.
I was struggling to pass the oclt last year with crystal clear water for a week. It wasn't until I cleaned the auto cover and the well that I passed. I chucked a few 5 gallon buckets of chlorinated water into the well to flush anything that may be in there.

This is great information. Ty
I tried to look under the cover today I can see black moldy looking stuff at the two corners that don’t touch water 😳 I’ll see what I can do about that . Open to suggestions 😀

There should be a drain in there, maybe hose it down until the dirt and sludge rinse away and then use pool water to disinfect?

Seems like all the extended SLAM threads have a common theme and that’s a cover being used when the SLAM is going on. I’d clean it as best you can.

Gm, this is a first for me … opened cover to test lots of white “foam” it wasn’t everywhere, just kinda right there at the end where the cover last touches. until after a few min later. Seems returns are pushing it around . Some breaks up when right in the return streamIMG_4271.jpegIMG_4273.jpeg

Have you used any household bleach instead of chlorinating liquid ? It looks more like soapy foam to me which is generally the polymers in the 'chloromax technology', splashless or scented kind.

Pond scum / latte foam is a side effect of a normal algae SLAM and many see some at first.

I have not. All additions have been the same brand same strength. The only variable I can think of , is I closed the cover a few times yesterday (for a few hours) …. That being said, the cover has been closed overnight- every night

As mentioned earlier I used a cover cleaner on top (approx a week ago) I did a good rinse and pumped off. Also it’s rained a few times here the cover didn’t look soapy. We had a heavy storm this morning.
Maybe it was residual cleaner 🤷🏼‍♀️

I did run the fountains yesterday, another variable I just remembered. I had not done that since starting slam. I really forgot about them as we never use them

is this something taken care of by slam ?
Yeah. It'll right itself by you doing what you're already doing.

I like the cover cleaner theory. Maybe it rained hard enough to push a previously above water area onto the water surface and some residuals came off.

Either way, it's all good.

What is Langelier saturation index ?

I received an email about my fiberglass care says chlorine over 5 ppm for superchlorination etc needs to have LSI 0 . Or can cause damage to pool surface

Is this relevant?

The No is good enough for me

Todays update :
Fc = stubborn donkey
Cc counting 0.5 but between that and zero it’s barely barely turning
