This hasn't happened to me yet but everytime there's a storm I wonder. What do you do when it's raining and the power goes out? Won't it break the auto cover if I'm unable to pump the water off of it?

No, if the pool is at proper level then the auto cover is sitting pretty on the pool water.
And then we just don't open the cover until the pump has a chance to remove the water?
