Powdered chlorine

Hi, I have been following the instructions here on trouble free pool for five years, dumping liquid chlorine in my pool every day or so. It has been great, and solved all my problems. However, I’m getting really tired of lugging liquid chlorine jugs around, is there no alternative for a powdered chlorine? I know there are salt, water alternatives, and in line chlorine Dispensers, but I really didn’t wanna go down those paths. I really was just looking for a powdered chlorine alternative. Does it exist?

Chlorine is a gas; to be sold in a dry form, it has to be bound to something. The two options the industry embraced were calcium or CYA. Both are items that are left behind once the chlorine is used. If you're willing to spend more $$, and replace water every year or two, these can work but require a lot of care.

A salt water chlorine generator is the easy, best answer. Less $$ over time compared to liquid or dry chlorine.

Chlorine has to bind to something for it to be in a dry product such as Calcium or CYA. A SWCG is the next best option in my opinion. If you've been using liquid chlorine in the past, I bet you already have enough salt in your pool to add a SWG

Joe,

I suspect that you think a saltwater pool is like the ocean... It is not. The amount of salt in your tears is about the same as a saltwater pool.

I have three saltwater pools in the DFW area, and just don't understand why all pools are not saltwater..

It is the only way I would own a pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.

My SWG will produce about 1000 jugs worth of FC over its lifespan. That's a frickton of jugs and/or powder I'll never lug.
It also produces said FC at less than half the cost of the alternatives. This cell was more expensive as my first cell on a new pool so it needed the install and controller. Swapping out future cells will return 4X or more on the purchase price over time.
