Possible leak

So I think I may have a massive leak, I did not drain my pool last year, I just sealed all the ports and jets and sucked the water out and blocked them off, and I noticed a bunch of water on top of the pool cover so I decided to take that off with a pump and now the pool is down about 2 ft I wonder could the pool water have seeped through the pool cover? That's the only thing I can think of other than there being a massive leak in the pool which I really don't want to deal with
Maybe I should test the water on top of the pool cover that's less and see if there's salt in it

Many have found their cover was no longer waterproof this exact way.

If it's the case for yours, the water may still be mostly rain water depending on how much it mixed when you pumped.

I'd fill the pool under the cover and monitor it.
