Poolvergnuegen Replacement Recommendations Needed

I have a suction-side Poolvergnuegen 2-Wheel Pool Cleaner in my in-ground 15k gal plaster pool. I've been pretty happy with the performance of the cleaner, but after nearly 5 years in action, the whole bottom chassis has become brittle and is crumbling, causing various pieces to fall off. I've heard such great things about the Dolphin line, but I don't think I can justify spending that much.

The previous owners left me with a crappy Hayward Navigator when we bought the place 10 years ago, so I know enough to stay far away from any of those "winged" models. And I'm generally shy about Hayward stuff on the whole, which makes me worry a bit about buying a direct replacement for the Poolvergnuegen since Hayward bought that.

For what it's worth, I do use a Hayward leaf canister to try to keep larger debris from getting to the pump basket.

Is there another option for roughly the price (or less) of simply replacing the Poolvergnuegen that I should consider?

I think a suction vacuum cleaner is the worst type of pool cleaner to use.

Consider getting a Maytronics Dolphin robot cleaner.

I've got the same suction cleaner. It's worked OK for about 5 years now but when it craps out I'll be moving to a robot.
