PoolRx stains. Newly painted pool surface.

I just painted my pool with 2 coats of 2 part epoxy paint. It looked beautiful until I added the PoolRx. The staining was so severe I drained the pool. I have tried to contact PoolRx three times using their on-line customer request form, and have called at least half a dozen times. They have not responded.

1) Does anyone know how to remove these stains? I have tried TSP, Bleach, and a pressure washer.
2) Does anyone know (or suspect) if the stains will leech through a new (third coat) of paint?

Welcome to TFP.

PoolRX adds silver, copper, and zinc to the pool. Those are metal stains.

Sulfamic acid is used to lift copper stains after which the water should be drained to dump the metals.

Thanks Allen,
I've got some sulfamic acid on order. The pool is already drained so I'll be able to brush the acid directly on to the stains. If the stains are easily removed, I'll clean the whole pool. If not I'll paint over the stains with a third coat of the epoxy paint. I'll check with the paint manufacturer (Supreme Paint's and Coatings) if they feel there would be any bleed thru. I should be able to post my findings by end of this week or early next week.

Sorry you’re dealing with this- you’re not the first & won’t be the last- they know it can stain so they probably won’t be much help except possibly refunding your purchase price.
With appropriate fc levels there’s no need for magic devices/potions

The sulfanic acid does work to remove copper stains, however the staining is so inconsistent, I cannot obtain a uniform color. I just added a third coat of 2-part epoxy paint, and the pool looks good again. The epoxy requires 5 days cure time before I re-fill the pool.
PoolRx has ignored all of my calls, on-line requests for support, and a letter that I sent by certified mail. I'm not sure what is up with this company, but I suspect they know they have a problem with their product and just don’t want to deal with it.
I will give a shout out to Supreme Paints and Coatings who provided the third coat of epoxy paint at a discount. Unlike PoolRx they return phone calls, and seem genuinely concerned about their customers.
I'll post an image once the pool is filled.
