Hi - Not sure where to post this, but has anyone come across a device that collects water from about 18" down? My old knees & back are getting tired of this daily ritual... The cup would have to turn over once at that depth, otherwise I could easily make my own I think. Tried googling & only found a device on a 24' pole for taking water horizontally across a current....tks! (such a device could be a money-maker if every home had a pool imo! I'd pay up!)

Several people here use a length of PVC with a cap on the end that has a small hole. Cover the hole and put it in the water, uncover the hole and it will fill with water from that depth, then cover it back up and pull the pipe full of water out. Hold the pipe over a cup and move your thumb, the water will flow in.

In all of the interwebs, I found one such device. I wonder whether the Leslie's bottle (which has a superior pour cap) will fit in it.
Yes, this would be great but I don't see how it collects water an elbow's length down unless I'm missing something & the bottle goes into water upside down and then flips over when desired depth is reached...Love the idea though!

I think the idea is to plunge the bottle into the water fast enough that it doesn't collect surface water. But I'd rather it had its own stick so I wouldn't have to swap it for whatever's on my telepole at the time.

I made this device a while back to pickup small debris from the bottom (when I was too lazy to get the vacuum out). Basically PVC with a check valve. Place thumb over the small hole and place the big hole over the dirt. Remove thumb and up goes the dirt. This should work great for collecting water from the bottom of the pool too.

I took a 1" PVC pipe, capped one end, and drilled a hole right below the cap in the pipe. First I set my collection container (plastic tupperware) on the pool deck. Then I cover the hole, put it down into the water, move my thumb away from the hole and the air leaves, letting the water in. I lift the pipe and water while keeping my thumb over the hole, until the end is in my container, then move my thumb away, letting the water into the container.
