Pool Temp

Let me first preface this by saying that I fully admit that living in AZ for so long has made me a wimp when it comes to being cold.

With that said, for last couple months my pool has been 80 degrees in morning and 84 by end of day. Last week it started to go to 82-86 daily range. Now I'm fine getting in the pool at those temps during the day, but keep waiting to see temp get higher so I find swimming as enjoyable at night.

I was curious what the effect of pool circulation can have on pool temp. Obviously, without circulation the top layer of water is noticeable hotter from sun. Doesnt the top layer (which is hotter) evaporate first? So would keeping pool circulated while its getting sun be way to warm pool faster?

Personally, I'd circulate during the day instead of at night.

Woody is correct for covering at night, early season I also cover during the day. Since we have such low humidity here in AZ (usually), you lose far more heat to evaporation during the day than you gain from direct sun on the water. Having the cover on removes that evaporation and cooling. I had my pool swimmable at 88 degrees or so in early April by covering it with a solar blanket 24/hr. This time of year, I'll leave it on over night and pull it during the day to maintain 88. Once we end up in the high 70s overnight, I put the cover in the garage and can maintain 88 without it.
