Pool steps

This has been the worst day today and this weekend will be 100degrees out. Anyways we had a drenching down pour in New Jersey. We had AAA linear install the liner and pool steps back in 2015. From what I remember, they just formed out the dirt and placed the steps right on the dirt. I don’t think they put pvc pipe or concrete for the footings. And of course today the steps floated up.

Any recommendations on what to do?

Sorry for your troubles. That sucks

I have the same steps and i watched them put in footings and pipe legs before backfilling. But it was to brace the steps from falling down when somebody walked on them. I would say the ground buckled and forced the steps up. The steps themselves couldnt have done that much damage the brick. If you held the steps on their own underwater, they may want to float a little but not enough to make the San Andreas that you got.

Yeah I don’t think they backfilled correct. I should have fired them when they cut the wall out without digging the back out first.

So I’ll have to drain the whole pool or to where the shallow end meets deep end and take liner out? Can reuse the liner?

You might be able to take the bricks out and use a compactor to lower the ground enough that the steps go back into place. The ground clearly came up and It happened to push up the steps. Fix the ground and see before draining.

So the steps went back into place but about 1 inch off of original spot. I dug around and saw shallow spots underneath the steps. Also noticed the return fitting was loose which was leaking pool water.

I’m going to let the water dry up and backfill with 3/4 stone and top off with crushed stone. Should I still put pvc pipes to secure the steps?

Now is the time if you are gonna have some kind of access. Do what should have been done originally.
