We are remodeling a 16K kidney pool and the steps that are there now - don't work for me. I am disabled (walk with a cane) seems like the second step is very steep- but hubby claims it is the same size as other steps. What are the typical height and width of a "wedding cake" steps into the low end of the pool?

The rise cannot be more than 12" per ANSI standards. However, even 12" rise is a stretch for most. I'd say 8"-10" is closer to standard, if you want the steps to be comfortable. There is no "standard" for width. However, ANSI also requires a minimum 240 sq/in of unobstructed walking surface per step, so with a 12" deep step, that would be at least 20" wide.

Thank you!

Even if each steps are the same height the more you get in the water the easier it should be since your body start to float. Typical house steps are 7.5" height and 10" wide, pool ones are usually a bit higher / wider . While step that are lower are great for easier entry / get out, if you plan to use them as a bench this would not be ideal, higher and longer are better.

Mine are 10" in height and 14" in width. They are a bit height for small kids but are great otherwise and second step make a perfect bench.

You should consider adding a handrail.
