Pool skimmer no suction

I know there is a different forum for salt but I figured since I had my pics in here and we have been talking about my pump, can I convert to salt water system and confidently install myself?
I am in Florida and my pool is not caged. Don't know if that makes a difference plus I have a lot of trees. My pool guy (yeah I know... but my health is getting better! And I think I can do this now) said that
a salt water system would be better due to my circumstances....
any input would be appreciated!
