Pool pump shutting off

Pool pump about 3 yrs old. Hayward powerflo 1.5 hp. Noticed that it has started turning itself off for about 40 seconds and then it will turn back on. I originally thought maybe the filter pressure was too high but at this point not the case. The de filter pressure is fine. Any tips or advice something we should be looking at fixing or should we just invest in a new pump. It does not trip the breaker. Pump does appear hot and recently we did have trouble with the filter and needed to change out the details. My husband also had to replace the toggle on/off switch as it was effected by the heat.

Sounds like the thermal switch could be turning off the pump due to overheating.

Could be the bearings are going bad and you need a new motor.

If you decide to get a new motor, I recommend getting the 2-speed version.
