I just bought a new pool pump motor and hook everything up correctly but now when I go to backwash my pool and then switch to rinse it trips the pump and shuts it down. In filter mode it’s runs fine. Any ideas why it would do this? Thanks in advance.

If you fill in your signature with a list of your pool and its equipment, you stand a better chance of getting the best answer. Something like my signature is ideal. Start here to edit your signature.

Do you have an SVRS pump? If so, that is likely the problem, about which others here can fill you in. Here's a google AI description:

An SVRS pump (Safety Vacuum Release System pump) is a type of pool pump equipped with a safety feature that prevents entrapment by sensing and responding to sudden increases in suction.
But the consensus here will be, if you can, to take that pump back and exchange it for one that does not have that SVRS feature. They are a lot of trouble, including symptoms like what you are describing. I don't know enough about them to advise about just turning off that feature. I'm not sure that's possible. Others here will know (which is why we need the make and model of your pump in your signature).

That said, welcome to TFP! Glad you found us. We'll get you sorted out.

Yeah I cut the pump off when switching valves. I have a Hayward super pump and a de 6000 filter with a vari flo multiport valve. I notice a crackling bubble sound at the multiport and suspect I have an air leak or damage inside. Water does leak from the top of the valve after I switch back and forth. Would this cause the pump motor to shut down.
