The pool plumber is saying to just add a T and a few ball valves. I’m going to swap all of my street 90s and regular 90s out for sweeping 90s and figure it’s a good time to add a heater bypass valve.
Photo below gives an idea of the setup.

Do you guys recommend buying an application specific bypass valve or am I okay to add the ball valves and then crack one open to allow 10%ish flow through the heater at all times or should I drain and blow out the heater somehow and let it sit dry until the months we use the heater?

Thank you for any advice,

Donnie

Yes, the jandy never lube diverter valve and a check valve is what I'd use. Once it's bypassed you need to drain the heat exchanger and let it dry out. I also see no gain in changing the 90° fittings for long sweeps.

This one ?

And one of these?

I’m pretty sure I have 1.5” pipe from the skimmers, 2” into the heater and then 2 1/2” everything else above ground in the pump house.

I should be ordering the 2 - 2 1/2” models, correct?

Even at that street 90* coming directly out of the top of the pump/discharge?

No benefit to the bigger radius on the sweeping 90??

My pump is rated to flow up to 120 Gpm…even after cleaning filter completely and fresh DE, clean skimmer and pump basket…I can only get about 70 gpm.

On quick clean my pump is set to 80 gpm..I’d like to get it flowing up to about 100 gpm if possible so I can turn the pool over in 8 hours

The 120 GPM is into no equipment. You will not get to 100GPM.

What filter and heater do you have?

A few sweep 90s will make no difference.

Bypassing the heater when not in use will give you the greatest flow improvement.

If you have automation and can automate the bypass you may pickup 20GPM with the heater off and bypassed.

Note that running the heater with water bypassed can damage the heater.

It looks like that pentair 462048 kit adds automation!

No, it connects to IntelliCenter or EasyTouch or IntelliTouch automation that you need to have.

Then you program the valve actuator to open or close at the same time the automation turns the heater on or off.
