Pool opening numbers...recommendations?

Hi guys!

Just took my first readings for the season, trying to get this bad boy opened so I can get the solar cover on and start warming that water.

Here are my numbers. I didn't do pH because usually you have to adjust TA first, so pH doesn't matter much.

FC: 0
CC: 0
TC: 0

CH: 50 ppm

TA: 40

CYA: 20

OTO: 0
pH: 7.2

What do you recommend for steps to get where I need to be?

I am going to SLAM it as some leaves got in this year and I noticed a few dead bugs and tree bits floating around the pool lately.

I would check for pH because from what I understand your pH should be between 7.2 - 7.5 for SLAM. Then I'll add CYA to 30, while at the same time SLAM at 12 FC and hold it there.

Chlorine is most effective at the lower pH levels, so it's recommended to test and adjust prior to slamming like Mendy said.

So my pH checks out pretty good at 7.2 (also added it to the OP).

Do you still recommend CYA + SLAM before TA?

I wouldn’t mess with TA for now. I would first bring my CYA to 30 and SLAM. You can start your SLAM process while your bringing you CYA to 30.

OK sounds good, that's my plan, and I'll mess with TA AFTER the SLAM.

My dot was still visible even at 20, so I'll probably do the math like it's 15 since it was cloudy but visible a little over the 20 mark.
