Pool opening 2024

Hello people. I just came home from work and tested some #s. FC good at 7. pH ok at 7.8. But TA is only 80. Is this ok. The sheet says for manually chlorinated pools that good readings are between 100 to 120?? What r u thoughts. Tomorrow i will take solar cover off during the day and put back at night. It has been on for 2 days straight. Kind of confused. On pool math it says 60 to 80 is ideal. And 50 to 90 is recommended. Yet the TF testkits instruction sheet says good readings are between 100 to 120?? View attachment 584549
Follow the tfp recommendations.
Ta of 80 is perfectly fine.
TFP does not make the test kits - it is a totally separate entity.

Hello all. Hope everyone had a great and happy day. But now back to business. Ha ha. As u can c by my logs. My FC is 4. My pH is 7.5 and my TA is 80. My question is. 1st. Is my pH ok. And when should i worry? And when that time comes to worry is baking soda a good answer to raise it. I have like 4 huge bags i bought before i met u people. And lastly my FC has been dropping to 4 like quite often. I know thats the minimum i should go to to keep pool proper but what should i raise it to on a nightly basis to keep it that way. I keep using 7.5 as my target number. Is that ok or not enough or too high?? I know i have to play. But with a 4 that its at now and raising it to 7.5 requests about 49 ounces to do that. If i do that every day i will be supporting Walmart. Do u guys have the same type of usage i am having?? Please advise. P.S. there has been full sun on the pool the last 2 days maybe 3.

3.5 ppm daily fc loss in the peak of summer is to be expected - keeping your cover on would help lessen that. I assume you’re referring to these losses with no cover?
I would raise to 8 or 9ppm so you have a little wiggle room for high uv & high bather load days.
your ph is in the 7’s so its fine.
Your ta is above 50 so it’s fine.
Use the extra baking soda in your laundry if it’s in your way 😊

In poolmath, log your test results first then log your additions.
You’ve mostly only been logging your additions. This makes it hard for you & us to look back and see where you land every time before adding anything. If you hadn’t have told me 4ppm I wouldn’t have known.

I am not a premium subscriber so i cannot do that. But in the future i will take the results first and log them in by updating my previous log and change the date and time. Then i will log in the additions?1718590243662.png

Its $8 a year Monte, many think it's monthly :)

You can keep track of it on your own just fine, but with premium we get to see your notes/logs. We can often spot a trend before it's an issue, or reverse engineer an issue after the fact from your data. It is very little money, very well spent when folks need us for help or sanity checks.

Think of all the typing it'll save you because the story is already written in the logs.

*also. This week is supposed to bring UV indexes that are particularly high for us, especially in mid June. I'd run a couple FC higher for some wiggle room.

I just subscribed. 😊🤞. With my solar cover on all day my FC was 7. Held pretty well. I added 21 oz to raise it to 8.5. I am working tomorrow so solar cover will b on tomorrow also. Will take off on Wednesday and Thursday when i am home this week. Will add FC accordingly. Now u can help me even more with my subscription now. Thank u

Now u can help me even more
As long as you log them, we can see the history. Sometimes the current day is a couple hours off, but you get the idea.

Awesome. Go higher if you need to as the heat dome visits for 2 weeks. (Or whatever cutesy name they have for it).

Hi its me again. I did all my tests and logged them. But when i first did my FC it said 9. Then i repeated it and it only went to 7???? Huh??? I also did a CC test and it turned ever so slightly pink and all i had to add was 1 drop of R0871 to make it clear again so my CC is 0.5. So now adding my CC plus FC if 7 is now 7.5 as total chlorine??? Please advise. I did it again for Fc and it was 7 again. So i guess 7 it is

I had a pleasant surprise like you did opening my pool. My water was pretty clear. Brushed it down and vacuumed and all seemed well. We added a deck this year and use the existing ladder with some modifications to fit the deck. Unfortunately, I didn’t thoroughly clean my ladder. I pressure washed it but didn’t take it apart and clean it. I’m now in the SLAM process because of it. I highly recommend taking apart your ladder or whatever you use to egress the pool and thoroughly clean it. Mine was disgusting.
