Pool opening 2024

Thank u for the pat on the back
You legit have rainbows in the 2nd pic above. I zoomed in on one for the closup but there's a bunch more in the pic.

Most definitely during the season. I dont believe I or my family would use the pool before June 1 or after mid September
Then a heat pump is the way to go. Just like an AC, you want it bigger than you need so it runs less.

I thought you had a solar cover?
That can really help prevent evaporative heat loss even without a heater. May help with your debris issue too.

Forgot all about that. I guess i will roll it out and give it the old college effort. But remember i add the liquid chlorine at night around 10 pm and the filter goes on around 11 pm thru till 7 am. Will putting the liquid bleach harm or ruin the cover?? Not sure how to structure this schedule with bleach adding and putting cover in at night also.

I think you mean the pump turns off at 11?
If the pump is running it is fine to add liquid chlorine as usual - just peel back the cover, add, & brush.

Sorry. No the pump goes on at night at 11 pm or so and turns off at 7 am as mentioned. So if i put the cover on at 10 pm a little bit earlier than the pump goes on is this ok if i broadcast the bleach around the edges of the pool like i do every night to keep the FC at about 7.5. If i do this do I need to brush all the time Or do u recommend i turn the filter on earlier like 10 when i put the cover on so that the bleach is being distributed??

The pump should be running when adding liquid chlorine- cover or not.
You should also always brush the area. Bleach is heavier than water & will sink & bleach the liner.
A simple solution to this would be to have your pump come on at 10pm when you intend to do this.

will do. but sometimes I have to go to work really early and leave by 6 AM so I try to go to sleep earlier than 10 PM. If that is the case can I start my filter earlier like 9 PM and have it shut off earlier like 5 AM--I know that is a silly question but just asking anyway LOL

back to my solar cover. I put it on tonight because the leaves are driving me crazy. My wife says that if I continue to do this every night I will go crazy. I used my Pool Rover robot tonight BUT I helped it along. Usually, it goes in all directions on its own wherever it hits the wall, etc. But tonight I put my long net stick in the water and when the robot started to move I gave the wheens a little nudge to steer it ONLY where the leaves had been. It seems to have worked faster that way instead of leaving it in the water for hours by itself. I guess I became the driver for the robot. Now about the cover- since my wife and I work, no one is home during the day. Is it OK to leave the cover ON for a few days at a time and only pick up one end or the rims when I add the chlorine at night? Is this OK-sort of like being on vacation and keeping the pool covered? I want to try to keep it as warm as possible and as clean as possible, But if it is hot outside and the cover is on for a few days is that a problem for the water in the pool? Will it get hotter with the cover on and will the water hold the FC better? I do not want mold or anything growing UNDER the cover if the weather is steamy during the week and the cover is on for days. Thanks for listening to my woes. Really, really, really. I am trying to learn all the correct things to do to keep my pool the way you guys taught me

Run time doesn't matter when. Adjust start/stop times as you see fit.

Might not be saving much effort over the manual vac at that point, but whatever works for you. Lol.

Oh yeah. Once or twice a week the pool needs to breathe (in sunlight) for 15 mins to burn off any CCs. If you go too long, it'll smell 'like a pool' when you open it, and the smell will be gone in a minute or less from fully opened.

No harm is done, but make a mental note to open it a little quicker next time. If you don't, it'll smell for a minute again but still no harm.

Nope. Under the cover is fine. Rain or morning dew may funk up the seams on top of the cover. Water goes stagnant QUICK when it's not chlorinated. Swish pool water on it and brush/sponge as needed. It can go right in the pool if your FC level is free and clear above min.

Or clean it when off the pool if it's not all rolled/folded up.

Yes, I understand-- I am just trying to save the heat in the pool and keep it cleaner from the leaves especially since we are not home some days of the week. So those days I will leave it covered. But I will roll up a portion later tonight check the chlorine levels and add accordingly as always. Will leaving the cover on prevent me from losing as much chlorine as I would if the pool was uncovered? My routine will not change except maybe a little less cleanup from those leaves accumulating at the bottom of the pool. It will be easier to blow them off with my leaf blower.

Many see the FC loss cut by about half when covered. Report back once you see how yours responds because we always love data.

I used my pool brush to sweep them to one corner and then scooped them off. If I blew them they mostly fell down that 1/2 inch crack at the edge right into the water. :ROFLMAO:

Yes i agree about the little space around the sides where the leaves would go. I will sweep them as u say. And about my data. Wow. Last night for some reason my FC went to about 4. So i wanted to bring it back nice and strong to 8 if u can see my logs so pool math said to add 56 ounces. I added 60 ounces. Now today it was quite mild only about 73-75 degrees. And i just tested the FC with the cover on and the skimmer with the sock remained debris free and the chlorine just came back at or between 8-8.5. Really turned clear with test in 17th drop. So my FC held!! Holy Cow Batman. No adding chlorine tonight i guess.

You're legit shielding the pool, so loss drops. There will be loss though, today was a fluke that it held all day. But you're and old pro now. The pool will tell you what it needs, when it needs it, and you'll listen. (y)

How do I donate like I did last year? I cannot see how and where to do it.

As you remember, we're all volunteer and don't have any stake in it. But we like our hobby and don't want to have to find a new one. So THANKS for helping us be around to help you. :)

Just one more thing- I cannot donate the amount it is requesting me to tight now. It is asking for $100. I need to make it a little less at this point if I can. How do I do that?

Hello people. I just came home from work and tested some #s. FC good at 7. pH ok at 7.8. But TA is only 80. Is this ok. The sheet says for manually chlorinated pools that good readings are between 100 to 120?? What r u thoughts. Tomorrow i will take solar cover off during the day and put back at night. It has been on for 2 days straight. Kind of confused. On pool math it says 60 to 80 is ideal. And 50 to 90 is recommended. Yet the TF testkits instruction sheet says good readings are between 100 to 120?? 1718229583724.png
