Pool Opened, now what?

Yep, we don't care about TDS.

On the TA, be sure to wipe the tip on a damp cloth between drops, hold the bottle vertically and let the drop fully form.

Numbers look good!

Great that you got the kit!

Here's what I would like you to do. Go to PoolMath and input YOUR numbers in both the now and target columns. Use 60 for your CYA values. Then go back and change the FC goal to 24 and put in 8.25% bleach at 128oz jug size. Then press calculate and mouse over the add box. Does it tell you to add 6.5 gallons?

Here is a link for directions on using PoolMath:

Just ask if you need any help.

Your high CC and not 100% clear water tell me that you need to SLAM the pool by raising the FC to 24 and maintain that level until you pass an OCLT.

Here are the links for how to SLAM and how to perform an OCLT.

Pool School - Perform the Overnight FC Loss Test (OCLT)

Again, please ask for any help. We can guide you as much or as little as you want. Just ask!

Yep, 6.5 Gallons. I'll put that in this evening, test, and check in the morning.

I haven't back washed in 2 weeks and we've had some rain. In regards to getting the CYA down should I only backwash from the drain and close the skimmer? Would that get more CYA out or does it matter?

Thanks,
Ryan

If you want to lower the CYA to 40, you would need to drain a third of the water and refill. That's up to you. One advantage is that your new shock level would be 16 instead of 24.

Yes, you would drain from the main drain and close off the skimmer.

If you are going to drain and refill, no need to use all that bleach until you test the new water. Throwing a jug in as a precaution would be wise, though. If you haven't added chlorine since your last test, you are getting very low.

Was it sunny out when you tested CYA? I wonder if your old 60 or your new 50 is more accurate. Raise FC back up to shock level of 24 for 60 CYA, or 20 for 50 CYA. Try to keep it there by adding whenever it drops.

Also, can you check under the ladder rungs and behind the light niche for any hidden problems?

We will fix TA when you are done slamming.

That pool looks terrible! When are you going to get to work on it??? LOL! :laughblue:
yeah, no kidding, thx.

6:45 p.m. so no. That test is a little subjective since you're just looking at the black dot

Well, I would use the 60 number and raise FC back up to 24. You are obviously very close and it would be a good idea to check that ladder (and brush under the rungs), and open up the light niche.

Your Mom's pool looks great, really great, but those CC's indictate something, somewhere.
