I have lived with and, maintained a pool since I was a boy in the early 70s. The pool net has always been a simple tool.
But it was always a MULTI-USE tool.

Skim the pool? Sure. No problem, worked great! Little rocks on the bottom of the pool? Palm seed? Scrape them right up. Foolball over the fence? That's why the pole telescopes. Cat in the tree? That is why they were so cheap in the first place. Possum floating **** up? Extra wide mouth makes sense huh!

WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?

Comes along a bunch of build it better, condo living nerds who never owned or serviced a pool to redesign something that was perfect. And their marketing department neighbors forced the entire market to change. Tell me again why the front lip needs to be so wide AND PERPENDICULAR with the net? Because it somehow skims better.?!?!? Really?????

WHO CARES?!?!?! It skimmed fine BEFORE!!!!

They seem to think this is some major must have engineerig feature upgrade. Like ii is shft on the fly four wheel drive or GI Joe's Kung Fu grip. Those we life changing.

But not this...

Now, with a fat perpendicular lip I cannot scrape a small object off the bottom of the pool. This function is way more important than floatsum removal.
Bet the dorks will invet a tool for that at $75 bucks. GO JUMP IN A POOL DORK! And fish out the Hot Wheels and pool tiles while you are at it.

And the cost!!! My cat's claws will ruin your $75 net by the end of the year.

The world went and got real stupid.

Just remember. If it aint broke, don't fix it!

And for all the B school MBA MID WITS who don't know what I am talking about, I will put t it in a bullet point to make it clear for you.

* EAT YOUR OWN DOG FOOD!

There. I feel better.

I like my cheepo Walmart net- it does all the things you describe without breaking the bank. It comes with a little pole but I can also put it on my long pole.
My last one started ripping after about 5 years of constant sun exposure. My new one now lives in the deck box - hopefully it will last even longer.

Don't get me started on the toilet brush that used to be handed down for generations that is now disposable after every use.

I loath that idea but I bought some of those to have in my arsenal for when clients don’t have a toilet brush (yes, this is a problem).
I just use 1 pad for the whole house, carrying it in my trash bag as I go, then throw it away. Then i can just sanitize the little stick & put it back in my cleaning bag.
Luckily I only have 1 client right now that has this issue. It’s funny, when people don’t do their own stuff they don’t even realize they are missing important basic functional tools. Like for instance, their vacuum or mop will be horrible but since they don’t use it themselves they don’t know. So I bring all the things just incase, I don’t feel comfortable telling them they need to buy certain items for them to also pay me to clean. I have let people know their vac was broken or their mop head worn out etc. but I guess they don’t mind & generally don’t do anything about it.
