I’ve been using pool math foe a while now and have a question about recommended va target and when I should actually add chemicals.

Using CL as example - every morning, my level is ~ 4ppm and I diligently add some chlorine to get it back up to my 6 ppm target. Should I be adding daily to always keep it at target or should I wait for it to slip below the recommended range (which would be every other day or so)?

I’m just unsure how to interpret the two ranges / targets.

If your dead minimum is 4ppm, I would overshoot that number and take it up to say, 6ppm. That way your daily loss doesn't drop you down below that basement level or you risk algae. Actually being in Austin with high sun ,I'd probably aim to keep yours at 7ppm. You're going to start to see a pattern of daily loss so you want to cover that and still stay above 4.

Remember that days of heavy bather load, or rainy dark days without sun all will change how much you lose.

Make sure to follow the FC/CYA Levels

Thanks. That’s what I’ve been doing - daily additions to keep it at target. I was just making sure that was absolutely necessary and I wasn’t over doing it

Some folks get away with running the pool hot (treating target as minimum) and dosing once every couple days. At higher FC to CYA the chlorine loss will be higher too so if has to be factored in… It works because it is safe to swim up to SLAM level.
