I have a Jandy muti colored pool light. The light has stopped working and i pulled it out of pool and measured the voltage to it which was OK. The light is 12 years old so I am sure the bulbs have burned out. So looking for replacements on line it says I need to replace all 8 bulbs ( Jandy P/N R0399600) in it at $ 50 each plus gasket which would put the total costs to around $500 to fix. So I have several questions related to a fix or replacement. Do all 8 bulbs need replaced at the same time? If so am I better off to buy a different more modern pool light. If so what are the things I must consider when selecting a replacement pool light.

Primary question is what light fixtures will fit in your light niche?

Good question. I guess they would have to have the mounting brackets on the same location so that the light could be properly secured to the niche. I have attached a picture of the current light.

That fixture has 8 bulbs in it?

Post pics of the label that is around the middle of the fixture.

I found those for 5 bux a pop. at a pool supply site with the same part number. If it is really gong to cost $500 for the whole thing I would look at the newer pool light tech that out there.. a lot has changed in 12 years.

Yes the light has eight bulbs in it. The attached metal band gives the P/N of the bulb and says all eight should be replaced

Mguzzy: what is the name of the pool supply that you found them for $5 a pop?

If i can not find the replacement bulbs for a reasonable price I am seriously considering replacing the whole light with a later tech light like a LED light but am worried about finding one that will fit in the existing niche and attach securely to it.

I just did a googly search for the part number and clicked on a link I saw.. the part number matched. So I have no idea if this is a good vendor or not.

Of course I went back and they are out of stock.. I didn't notice that the first time. Another site has them for $50 for the set of 8... that sounds more reasonable. Where did you see them?

I saw them on several advertisers on Ebay. Also saw on several pool supply places. The prices on all were in the $40 to $50 per bulb. Also saw them from a Wild West pool supply and were priced at $40 for a set of eight. Not sure this is a legitimate business. Has anyone heard or ordered from them?

So is this it?
It looks like that part number only has two lights in the kit, so you would need 4 kits for a total of 8 lights. But I wonder if the "MR16EYC" Halogen lights are generic enough that you can get them from another source as long as they match the specs. They look like the little lamps that I have seen in Christmas lighting and security lights. I think it might be worth it to pop that light open and look at the actual bulbs. I found Halco "MR16EYC/SC" on Amazon for ~20 bux each.. x8=$160... even that seems a reasonable price. Or even this pack of 10 bulbs for $20bux... at that price even if they are cruddy bulbs you could by a bunch and swap them out as they burn out.

Worse case scenario, at the bottom of the sticker in your picture it indicates what niche models this light fits in. If you need to get another light you can match the niche from there.

That note is confusing. I think there are likely only 2 lamps in there, not 8. The rating of 165W for the fixture as well as the 2/75W maximum lamp note, is where I'm coming up with this. If there were 8 lamps it would be a 600W fixture.

Just rebuilt the exact lights (2nd time in 5 yrs) which are 16 years old. Amazon sell bulbs that are exact fit - 10 bulbs for $12. Also rebuilt the spa one Too which 10 for $6. New gaskets and they work like new! Note: replace them all as they don’t have a long life typically (and are cheap) also with leds taking over my guess is these will become harder to find overtime (was easy 5 years ago). I bought 2 sets just in case!F71DAF1C-84ED-48A5-AC11-48AABAA5BBC1.png

Rossterman: thanks for the bulb info. Do you buy yours recently? If so what supplier or site did you purchase them from?

Mguzzy: the manual for the light is the correct one. BTY there is a susperciding P/N for the bulb which is R0451600.

I order the replacement bulbs back on May 19, 2020, and they have yet to arrive. Their site does not list a phone number and has that automated talk live feature. I also sent an email last month and still no reply. So from my experience, Wild West Pool Supply is not a legitimate company. I paid $49.73 for the Jandy Bulb Kit Halogen 75 Watt MR-16, 8 pack (R0399600). They charged my account and the USPS tracking site only shows the update of the item being received on May 22nd. But their site said shipped May 28th.

UPDATE 7/9/2020.
Wild West finally replied to my email via their support email. They stated that the item was dropped off at the Springfield, MA facility and since the item is no longer in their hands I have to do the leg work. Well, USPS left me a voicemail today and stated that the package was never mailed out by the sender and will try to contact the person. Let's see if they feed me more BS or do the right thing and send it overnight.

Also I found that the Pin bases in the housing tend to get oxidized and some lights didn’t work at first (check them before you reinstall glass lens). They were actually fine just not getting a good electrical connection to the base. I needed to move the lamp moved in and out a few times to remove the corrosion and get a good connection for the bulb then they were fine. Wear latex gloves as skin oil /fingerprints when handling and installing the bulbs drastically shortens the life. I also used some silicone grease when installing the gasket around the lens and on the sealing surface pf the housing for a little extra leakage Protection as well as sealed the cord to the housing with some silicone seal on the outside.40CA4250-AD15-458F-8E44-3CFE22D02995.jpeg
