Pool heater, slight gas smell

Hi,

I have a Jandy Lite2 pool heater. Had the "professional" come in and open it a month ago. However, I notice a slight "natural gas" smell when I approach the heater. The smell is still there even when the heater is not on (switch is off), but the pilot light is still lit.

Is this something I should investigate further? Or is it normal? No issues thus far other than the slight smell when you're within 3 feet of the heater.

I would have them come back out and check for leaks

If you smell gas it would be wise to shut gas off to the heater supply line or the whole house if need be. The leak could have developed over the winter underground.

Thanks for the help guys. Had the them come in to check it out.

1) Turns out the union nut was loose (the first guy didn't do a thorough job). No charge.
2) Stopped working the same day after the "gas leak" was fixed. Had them come in again and it turned out to be the limit switch problem. No charge given improper inspection the first time.

Hopefully this does the trick.
