Pool frog mineral pack

Right off the bat, you should toss it.
It contains Silver Chloride and Calcium Carbonate. Neither of which you need. The biggest thing it does is increase the volume of cash in the pool stores and King Technologies wallets.

Switching from the frog to the TFP way is really easy. You may need to drain some water to lower your CYA, but you'll know that when you test your water with your shiny new TF-100 test kit. :)

Hey jcaj. To answer your question, the purpose of the mineral systems is to add copper or silver to prevent algae. While its true that those metals can inhibit algae growth, they do absolutely nothing for sanitizing. So regardless of being sold as no/low chlorine systems, you still need to add a full amount of chlorine to be sanitary. Bacteria, viruses, pathogens etc do not care that you may or may not have any algae with the mineral systems.

So besides the fact that the properly chlorinated pool (which you have to do anyway) will keep you algae free by itself, the metals that the mineral systems add will cause staining to the pool and people who swim in it. When the average mineral system buys into the pool store hype and doesn't add enough chlorine, the swimmers come out with rashes too. Or worse.

You can keep the system and just not use any cartridges in it if i remember correctly.
