My walmart down the street says it has that in stock. Will go get some. Says above i may need about six jugs. How many should i add tonight?

A gallon of 10% will raise your FC by 5.6 ppm. 4 gallons will get you to shock level of 20. Then you will see if the pool holds that level. If it is mostly dirt then you will not see a big FC loss or CCs. Get 6 gallons so if you lose some FC you can top it off tonight.

You have MA to lower your pH to 7.2 before you add the 4 gallons of LC?

Yes its all dirt/debri. Pool has never had algae. Was perfect water yesterday. I will get clorinator going. Should i super chlorinate or just set at normal rate till i get to 4 ppm. I typically run it at 25 to 30 percent. Keeps me around 4 to 5 ppm. But ive never had all this organic matter in pool.

Use superchlorinate until you can get the 4 gallons of 10% LC into the water. You can test the FC when you get the LC and see how much FC the SWG got in there.

I think one high dose of CL may prevent algae and you will just have lots of dirt to filter out.

Wait until you have the LC in hand. Then test FC & pH, lower pH to 7.2, and add LC to get FC above 20, and turn off SWG. Once FC is over 10 pH tests are unreliable so just test FC until pool is clear and FC below 10.

Ok i added one gallon of liquid chlorine and added salt to get generator producing as suggested. Still getting an error message on aquapod and salt still shows 2300 ppm. I added two bags around an hour ago. For some reason its not detected yet. Is that normal?

I forget how the Hayward does it. Some salt cells only check the salt every 12 hours. It also takes a few hours for the salt to dissolve and circulate in the water. It may take a while for the SWG to click on.

Ok well at least i have some chlorine in the water thanks to you all. I was thinking i needed three bags of salt to get from 2300 to 3200. I added two first just to be safe and not overshoot. Ive read the cells are not always accurate. Will wait and see. Thank u all for your help/advice. This is such a great resource.

Turn the circulating pump on and add salt directly into the pool. Brush the salt aroundto speed up the dissolving process--do not allow salt to pile up on the bottom of thepool. Run the filter pump for 24 hours with the suction coming from the main drain (usepool vac if there is no main drain) to allow the salt to evenly disperse throughout thepool. The salt display may take 24 hours to respond to the change in salt concentration

Exactly. I am not sure your pool has been without chlorine long enough to have algae and need a full SLAM.

I would bring the FC up to around 10-12 ppm or so (the exact amount doesn't matter) and would concentrate on filtering out the dirt that is the real contaminate. You certainly need FC in your pool but your biggest issue is filtration. Brush, vacuum, and RUN YOUR PUMP 24/7 backwashing/cleaning as necessary. Brush, vacuum, filter! Brush, vacuum, filter! Brush, vacuum, filter!

Exactly what ive done, no algae yet, chlorine around 8 ppm, swg running well now showing 2800 ppm salt. Really the DE filter is doing all the work. Really proving itself so far. Dolphin m400 running continuously cleaning up all dirt. Learning a lot from this experience. Only issue was after backwashing one of the jets where i normally plug in pressure cleaner was sputtering. Perhaps i got air in system when attempting to vacuum early this AM? Water coming out fine just makes a noise like a sputter of sorts and then flows again. Did not notice it as much when i checked at lunch time. Was my first attempt at vacuum and it was a fail. My dolphin usually does that for me so i went back to that. Also keeps junk out of de filter which is nice.
