My pool flipped and I'm not sure what's going on. I've been at work for a week and everything was fine when I left I have my wife at home who's trying to do what she can but she knows nothing about the pool. Pool levels when I left were.

Today my wife sent me a picture of my pool and it has turned green. I use an inline chlorinator with 3" chlorine tablets when I'm gone because I work a 14/14 rotation away from home. I had my wife test the pools chlorine with the small chlorine/ph test kit and it shows it's above a 5. Any ideas of what could be causing it?

Ph is running a 7.5 right now and it's filled with city water. My target fc is around 10 with the cya at 60 but I guess what I'll have her do until I get home is add a couple gallons of bleach per day until I can do a proper slam when I get in on Tuesday.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but algae is having a party in your pool while you're away. Unfortunately that's worse than the kids partying in the pool!

Your free chlorine level is too low for your CYA.

The test that you posted from before you left, how were they obtained? Do you have a drop beast kit?

Using the triChlor tabs, your CYA has gone up 10-15 ppm since you've been gone.

That's gonna need some bleach in a hurry before it gets out of hand. Your CYA is already on the high side.

[Edit] man I type slow! Lol

Your cya is probably closer to 100 now...

I normally use a combination of pucks when I'm gone and dollar general concentrated bleach when I'm home. I work a 2 week home and 2 week gone rotation so it's really my only option and I've been using this method for about 4 years now with no issues

By any chance is that pool filled from a well? It could just be that the pH has crept up and combined with the high FC, has cause Iron to start showing itself.

This would be my first guess also and your pH looks pretty high. I just filled my pool and there was iron in it and it looked green in pictures, but a little more brown in person. I tested the iron (using Ferrover iron reagent and a spectrometer) and it was surprisingly only 1.0 ppm. I expected more from the look of it, so it does not take a lot of iron to cause this.

I added clarifier and ran the pump/filter 24/7, adding a little more clarifier after each backwash and it cleared in 4-5 days, so its not a quick fix if it is indeed iron. One quick way to see if it is iron is look at the backwash. If its brown, its probably iron. If its green, probably algae.

Actually I'm surprised she's done this much. It's because she knows how much the kids love to swim. In her defense she does hold down a full time job and take care of our 5 year old and 6 year old children by herself when I'm gone.

Maybe be a good husband and buy your new Pool Girl a TF100 and a nice pool floaty to use! It's not like buying your maid a sweeper!
