Pool filter - PSI unchanged for days.

Hi,

My Hayward pool filter (sand) typically has a normal PSI reading of 15. However, recently, after shocking the pool, the water has turned cloudy. I can only faintly make out dead algae at the bottom which I vacuumed to the filter. It's been cloudy for 4 days (shock was done last Sunday).

The PSI reading has stayed at 15/16, but hasn't gone up from all the filtering it was supposed to have done (regular filtering, vacuuming). I have run it 24/7 for the last week or more. Is there a problem with the filter?

PS I use a skimmer sock.

Regards,

Ryan

A cloudy pool is very often a chemistry problem, not a filter problem. You had algae - that you have never eradicated by using a SLAM.

When you get towards the end of a SLAM, you can use this Pool School - Add DE to a Sand Filter to polish your water.

But you need to obtain a proper test kit and complete a SLAM first.

Take care.

It will raise the filter pressure eventually. But you need to constrict the throughput of the filter so that it needs a higher pressure to push the water through. You have not filtered / vac'd enough stuff yet to cause that.

Backwash when your pressure rises 20-25% above clean pressure.

Take care.
