Hello,

I am wondering why my filter is sending water back into my pool while I am backwashing or vacuuming to waste? I have a very bad algea problem that I cannot fix and I believe this is the root cause. Is this a sign that my spider gasket is broken?

Thanks.

That would be one of my first areas to examine along with any other parts that support the seal and function of the multiport valve. Be sure to update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info so we know what you have there. It helps with future posts.

Thanks,

So a broken spider gasket could cause the filter to send water back out into the pool and out of the backwash hose simultaneously? I am assuming it should only be coming out of the backwash hose when the filter is set to backwash or waste, right?

I suppose it would depend on how badly the gasket or valve itself may have failed inside. Probably won't know for sure until you open it up.
