We are almost ready to pour the decking and would like recommendations on how much to put where. Why and why not? What you would do differently or wish you’d done, etc. 91F0A41E-D7C2-4219-B2FA-0563BF55AC0E.jpeg91F0A41E-D7C2-4219-B2FA-0563BF55AC0E.jpeg91F0A41E-D7C2-4219-B2FA-0563BF55AC0E.jpeg

Looks like you'll have a nice size pool. It's hard to tell from you picture how much space you have available, but my thinking is generally as much decking as you can afford to pour that doesn't detract from the rest of your yard/greenspace. I've got four little kids, so I want lots of space for them to run and jump into the pool, have table set up around for games/entertaining, as well as plenty of room for loungers. I'd say at a minimum you want at least one size to be at least 10-12 ft wide, otherwise you won't have a good space for loungers. Also, are you putting a slide in? Those surprisingly seem to take up more space than you might think.

We like to recommend at least 4' around the pool, with obviously larger areas for sitting, tables, ect. But 4' allows for easy safe walking around the pool without fear of falling in if you're brushing the pool or someone else is walking near by also.

Oh yeah....and you need a little Georgia Dawg type cookie cutter/cookie press to stamp in to that South Carolina cement....heheheheh! Just a few dawgs here and there. Would be quite the talk of the neighborhood!

If it helps, we are about to break ground on our 20x40 rectangle and I went 12ft on the shallow end, 10ft off the back side, 8ft on the diving board end, and 8ft on the end closest to the house. That way, we feasibly have 3 areas we can set up chairs and still have room to walk. That gives us the ability to move things around, depending on the sun. I may even add 2ft to the side closest to the house and make it 10ft also.....if we have room after the pool is in.

And Go Dawgs! Live right outside Athens, and my wife and I both graduated from UGA. Definitely put the Dawg stamp in the concrete! I didn't think about that before, and now I'm going to be looking for a template to stamp into the wet concrete when it's poured.
