Pool deck demo

Hi folks - Just joined up as I'm doing some research on a pool deck renovation.

I have a small fiberglass in ground pool and about 7-800 sqft of concrete decking with cantilevered edge. Its about 18 years old and heaved, cracked, edges crumbling, etc... On top of that, the PO painted the concrete a funky orangy red color. Its bad. Lol

My plan is to rent a breaker and concrete saw and do the demo myself. What I am concerened about is damaging the fiberglass shell when I get to the cantilevered edge.
What can I expect as far as hardware or ties at the pool edge? Best practices? Things to not do?

Any and all feedback appreciated!

This is about a deck, not a pool. Under Construction is for the pool construction. We used to have a forum called Poolside Paradise for this type of discussion, but that forum has been eliminated and we now use the Coffee Bar for non- pool related discussions.

Do as much as you can with the saw before using the breaker. Thats all I got. I used a sledge hammer for about 8 feet of decking and it was hard work.

Concrete forms for fiber glass pool coping are usually plastic (z forms) or styrofoam. A permanent track is usually screwed or taped or both to the edge of the pool. During demo it’s pretty easy for the concrete to slide right off ( hopefully not into the pool). If you are careful you can make a saw cut about 10 inches from the coping edge and hammer it out. There is a bond beam and it is super thick under the coping and up under the edge of the pool. The bond beam is usually under the skimmer so be very careful.
