I am looking at getting a pool cover. What are the thoughts here on mesh versus solid?

It’s personal preference and nobody is wrong. One way or the other you are pumping rain water……. Either from the top of the solid cover, or below the mesh cover.
My $.02 was the ‘mesh’, which was solid if you held it up to the light, was lighter and easier to work with.
If your pool area gets wind, debris and dust will blow under either cover.
